Welcome to Griffin Music Education
Hello and welcome to my site. I have been involved with music education for more than 25-years in Australia, England and Dubai and regularly visit schools in other countries with the mission of inspiring students and staffs to learn smarter. 2013 was a wonderful year. Consulting for Cambridge University Press and Kazakhstan, giving workshops in the UK, Hong Kong and throughout Australia, and publishing two books kept me very busy. On top of that - and most importantly, I accepted the position of Head of Music at CBC in Adelaide. I continue to offer CPD for music-teacher organisations, and to music students on how to practise well. This February 28 I head to Sydney giving a presentation at St Catherine's School, Waverley. This is open to the public; you can read the flyer here. Details of my student presentations, workshops and staff professional development are in the Lectures and Workshops page. My newest book Learning Strategies for Musical Success is full of advice and general wisdom for teachers, students and parents. I am pleased to say it is gaining excellent reviews, as you can read on the page dedicated to it in this site.
As well as 'Learning Strategies for Musical Success' I have three other music education books suitable for a range of age groups. The popular Music and Keyboard in the Classroom is aimed for general music classes within a keyboard laboratory setting. Modern Harmony Method is suitable for more senior students involved in composition, arranging and harmonization. Good news for choral conductors; Bumblebee! Rounds & Warm-ups for Choirs is now available and selling well. Details of these books, including YouTube descriptions and testimonials, are in the Music Education Books section. Each book is available for purchase by clicking on the link above, through Amazon, or through me directly.
Recordings includes a library of school choir and jazz ensemble mp3s, and my own piano recordings. Please consider purchasing my new CD Consolation: Beautiful and Relaxing Piano Classics. Ideal for newcomers to classical music, it would make a thoughtful but iinexpensive gift. You can listen to a sample of every track at Amazon, and purchase mp3s (single or album) or the physical CD. Free resources includes eight ’Great Pianists’ podcasts, five 'Music and Mathematics' podcasts, as well as several music education articles written by me.
