The corridors of power: Using background music around schools by Michael Griffin
Written for Classroom Music magazine (Rhinegold) 2009
I’m a school principal. Can this idea be of value for schools?
My studies have targeted using ambient music for the betterment of the education environment. This includes the playing of appropriately chosen music before and after school, and during breaks, in general school areas. The results of these studies have shown positive mood influence on staff and students. One must, however, be aware of the inherent characteristics of this music in achieving and promoting a positive aural climate.
